The Reading Room is a self contained, detached holiday let converted from the original forge building. It is in the grounds of our home, the original blacksmiths cottage, just a short walk across the garden.
It’s very much an away from it all retreat. We have amazing dark skies, red kites and an abundance of nature. We are 10 miles from the Ceredigion coast and close to the Cambrian mountains.
The “Reading Room” is a big open plan space packed with books. It has a dining table, big sofa bed and wood burning stove. There is stone corner staircase up to a sleeping area (it has restricted head height in places) but lovely large low double bed. There is a well equipped kitchen with washing machine and gas cooker (all in the open plan space). At the far end there is a shower room.
There is gas central heating and a wood-burning stove. You have access to our large garden with stream and wild pond, teeming with wildlife. The “Reading Room” is next to the fast flowing mill stream.
There is a barbecue for our guests and an external table and chairs.
The books and art are for sale.
This is our family home and we have two dogs, two rabbits and a cat. You are welcome to bring your well behaved pet; please keep them on a lead in the garden and bring their bedding. You would be advised to bring wellies for yourselves as the ground around here can be a bit soft! As we are close to working farms, the occasional heavy tractor does pass on the lane and can sound loud compared to the relative silence. This also makes our dogs bark.
Roger is a painter and works in his studio on the premises. He’s always happy to talk about his work and share his love for colour.
We are just outside Pontsian, opposite the entrance to Castell Howell. They have swimming pool, squash courts and bar, all of which can be accessed by our guests when they are open. There is a pub just across the road called Tafarn Bach where excellent food is served Friday, Saturday, Sunday.
We are only ten miles from beautiful Ceredigion Bay and its beautiful beaches and amazing coastal path. You will be spoilt for choice for beaches with New Quay, Llangrannog and Cwmtydu close by. At New Quay you can take a boat trip to see the dolphins, bodyboard at Llangrannog or walk onto the cliffs at Cwmtydu. The Plwmp Tart at Penbryn does delicious lunches and the wide open beach is stunning. A little further afield are Mwnt, Aberporth and Poppit Sands. The picturesque, bustling town of Aberaeron is a must visit place while you are here.
